E-commerce services generated more than a quarter of group revenue, while its domestic mail division accounted for just under 10% in the year. Domestic parcel revenue increased by 15%, while DHL Express saw revenue increase by more than a quarter. However, strong performance in the prior year resulted in B2C volumes for both divisions dropping in Q4 2021. Meanwhile, Deutsche Post reported a recovery in admail volumes in 2021, although this was more than offset by declines in transactional mail, with mail revenue falling 0.4%.
Higher network utilisation, as well as rate increases and increased automation for logistics operations, drove improved profitability for the group in 2021.
